Rooms: Super-aseptic operating theatre of the orthopaedic department.

Scope of measurements: One-off test of dry fog disinfection and comparative measurement after routine contact disinfection with germicidal irradiation. Microbiological air measurements in the operating theatre, anteroom and scrub room: biosampler at a height of 1.5 m, flow rate 100 l/min, sampling time 10 minutes. Total bacterial count, moulds and pathogenic bacteria were monitored and assessed under Decree No. 553/2007 Coll. of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic. Result: after dry fog disinfection, 0 CFU/m³ of bacteria in the operating theatre air (system under its earlier name HydroFogg).

Conclusion and recommendation: According to the report by MUDr. Katarína Naďová, PhD., MPH, the one-off test showed more effective removal of microorganisms with supplementary dry fog disinfection than with routine contact disinfection followed by germicidal irradiation. She recommends dry fog as a suitable supplement to routine contact disinfection, with the potential to ensure a higher-quality aseptic environment.
